The Weather Man

The local NPR station here in Oklahoma (KOSU) has a terrific weather man.

And by terrific, I mean hilarious.

Here's the weather report from two days last week:

"Hang on, Oklahoma. The winds are picking up this evening, and will be pretty gusty into tomorrow. Like hard to stand up, windy. So bundle up, and stay warm."

And then...
"Warmer weather is coming. Today, temperatures will be too cold for shorts, but too warm for pants - maybe go with capris, if they are still in fashion. We're looking for a high today of 68."

A final solo

Nate, Brooke and I drove out to the flight line early this morning to see Greg take off in his formation flight solo. It was a glorious day, and so cool to see his takeoff.

Greg later told me today that he and another classmate noted that this would be his last solo in a military aircraft. Wow.

Captain Energy

One more "live" glimpse at our house lately. Captain Energy (read: Nate) making the most out of everything.

Live footage

This is, perhaps, the biggest news at our house lately. Plus, she laughed. And... even better? (Can it be true?!?!) Brooke and Nate got lost in a fit of giggles together. It was the best. I loved it.

Turns out, February is making a come back. It's been a good couple of days 'round here. (See above. =))

It started out a rough-ish month: between colds and ear infections and pneumonia, and then we were saddened at the news of Greg's grandpa passing away. Truly, it was a tough couple of weeks.

Greg's flight commander has been a total blessing, and so supportive of all the "life things" that have come Greg' way during this year of pilot training. Greg was able to go home for the funeral and it meant the world to me that he could be there, and with his family, for that special moment.

Pure sweetness

A little blurry - but, still, I love the sweetness!

In a holding pattern

Nate was on the docket to have surgery tomorrow to have tubes put in his ears. It was our (hopeful) approach to end the endless ear infections.

Alas, the surgery has been postponed - until next week. Our little man had a small case of pneumonia (because... apparently, there can be small and big cases. Me? As a mom? I think pneumonia is pneumonia. Period. But, I digress.) Oh, and it was obvious that he was not feeling well.

Ha.

No, friends, despite having a double ear infection and pneumonia, Nate still conquered the couch, jumping on it, from it, to it, over it: he thinks it's his own personal trampoline. He insisted on playing catch everyday outside.

And when it snowed three inches this week? You'd better believe that we were outside building a snowman. (A fine looking snow fellow, at that.)

Also: Brooke giggled this week. Exciting stuff! Not a full on laugh, but a sweet little giggle nonetheless, and it's such a great milestone. We're over the moon.

one more thing...

I found $50 today.

It's for Nate.

And I said $$ in greeting cards that he was sent for various reasons.
(And, for the record, I'd like to note that we did find it. So that's a plus, right?)

Greg took the liberty of laughing (pretty hard) at my gaff. Still, I just took great pleasure in knowing that I had not only kept the great greeting cards (thanks, Friends and Family for all the love) but also terrific mementos from his first (and almost second) year, like the tickets from his first professional soccer and baseball games.

The worst part? Some of that $50 was given to Nate in 2010.

It's 2012, folks.

Don't worry - I'll add "keeping better track of Nate's generous college fund gifts" to my list of resolutions for the year. (Still, I am relishing a bit the thrill of finding it. It's a bit like putting your hand in the pocket of your winter coat and finding that $20 from last winter.)

And seriously: we so appreciate all the love you send to our little cherubs. It was fun today to look back at the things we've saved.

(And other ramblings)

Brooke is quickly loosing her newborn baby look and turning into a stunning little (baby) gem. She has the same long eyelashes as Greg and Nate, but hers ever so delicately curl up at the ends. Naturally.

Her hair is long enough that it goes over her ears.

And her smile is so bright and easy-to-come-by.

This morning, I thought I heard her giggle (a little, heh hehe) - she is already almost 4 months old!

Greg and I often, at the end of the day (and sometimes right in the middle, too) note how patient, mellow, and forgiving she is. Already. It's a gift - since her brother can be less so these days.

Her sweetness turns on Nate's charm and the two of them certainly have Greg and I wrapped around their fingers.

We're in trouble - I think they'll team up together when they are older.

But seriously: could you resist this face?

Happy World Nutella Day

This weekend, Greg and I were people about town - with 6 kids.

No, you have not missed a major announcement. Sarah was at a church youth retreat with Seth, so Greg and I got to hang out with the four younger Markowski's. We made a activity-filled weekend of it: valentine making, movie watching, go-to-a-theatre-showing (Alice in Wonderland), enjoy a new restaurant (DogTown, where they mostly only serve hotdogs, piled on with crazy toppings. The tamest version (other than plain) is the Chicago Dog. That should tell you something.) The boys played racquet ball and basketball with Greg, and the girls and I painted toe nails and baked. (And we found out that it is World Nutella Day today, so we baked a nutella cake.)

It was a good weekend.

In other news, Brooke and Nate and I all have the sniffles. And of course, that means that Nate also has an ear infection.

So, he's getting tubes in his ears. Hopefully, by the end of the month, we'll be back on track with a healthy little man - who stays that way for more than 10 days.

Greg starts formation flying this week - the last phase of this current airplane. The countdown begins: in a little over a month, he will have graduated from this airplane and begun training in the next - the T1 Texan. It's a phase we're excited about.

Also - Nate has learned the art of sneaking. When we asked him to, say, not go into the  bedroom because Brooke is sleeping and he so desperately needs to go in there, he quietly crawls (and as slinkingly as you can crawl) slowly - with an occasional pause to make it look like he is in fact just sitting on the floor - to the bedroom. Where he shrieks with so much excitement that he has fooled us. (And is now jumping proudly on the bed.)

Happy World Nutella Day to you (oh, and super bowl Sunday, too.)
